WELCOME TO THE UNIVERSITY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE, BUDAPEST, HUNGARY
The University of Veterinary Medicine in Budapest often described as “Little Paris of Middle Europe” is
one of the oldest veterinary schools in the world!
This European-standard university still operates on small scale and it enrolls only a limited number of students each year preserving high academic values while maintaining a family atmosphere in the historical campus located in the middle of Budapest. The predecessor of the current university was established in 1787 as Chair of Animal Healing at the Faculty of Medicine of the Budapest University shortly after the foundation of the first veterinary school in the world (in Lyon in 1762). After a number of transitional statuses, the institution has finally been given an independent university rank and earned an outstanding international reputation.
In the 1990’s a Field Station and Large Animal’s Clinic was built outside Budapest providing a bigger supply of horses and cattle for the students in the clinical years. Since the foundation of the international programs in 1989 around 2500 international students were enrolled.
The university is accredited by the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (E.A.E.V.E.) and the diploma of the university is accepted in all EU countries and several other countries as well.
