Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review

As foldable phones are being accepted by more and more consumers, one of the most important players in this segment is Samsung. The company introduced two new foldable phone models in early August, Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4. Galaxy Z Flip 3, which went on sale this time last year, was indeed an important update with its more robust structure, water resistance and similar features compared to its predecessor. This year, we see that Samsung has taken a little slower in innovations compared to last year. There are no radical changes in screen size, design and similar areas. However, we are facing a foldable phone that has been further strengthened, has made improvements on the camera side and has received one of the most up-to-date processors of our time. In the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 review article and video, there are our impressions and comments about this foldable phone.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 review: Design

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 receives minor but notable design changes over last year’s model Flip 3. First of all, the phone is shorter and narrower with the foldable screen open. Samsung owes this to thinning the bezel that surrounds the screen. The thickness value of 6.9 millimeters is kept the same. As such, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 fits comfortably in the hand and can be used safely. Although its narrowing makes it comfortable to hold, the phone is still long, so it’s not easy to reach the tops of the screen with one hand.

Samsung has made the protrusion of the hinge section a little smaller. In addition, last year’s glossy rear glass coating has been replaced by a slightly more matte and rough glass coating. Samsung provides more protection by using Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ glass on the back of the phone. Although the edges are made of aluminum, it has a slightly more elegant look with the glossy look given. With these minor changes, the Z Flip 4 has become a phone that looks nicer and more enjoyable to use than its predecessor.

Apart from reducing the outward protrusion of the hinge, there is still a gap when the phone is closed. This causes dust to cling to the screen, especially when carrying the phone in a bag or pocket. The case that Samsung sent with the Z Flip 4 works very well at this point. This fun case, which wraps the phone tightly and has a strap on the back for easy holding, also covers the gap when the phone is closed, as it has a thickness that extends beyond the bezel of the phone. Thus, the screen remains cleaner. Although this case increases the thickness of the phone a lot, it does not cause much trouble in terms of use. Moreover, its friction surface and the strap on the back will even help you to use the phone more comfortably.

Like last year’s model, it still has IPX8 certification. So while this phone is not dustproof, it is water resistant. It will be possible to use it in the rain and near water like this without fear. Let’s also mention that it can stay in water up to 1.5 meters deep for half an hour without anything. Even if you drop this complicated phone into water, you don’t have to worry.

Samsung hasn’t made any changes to the ports and buttons around the phone. On the right side are the volume keys and the power button. The fingerprint reader is embedded in the power button. On the bottom edge are the USB-C port, speakers and microphones. At the top is the second microphone. Just above the foldable screen is the handset, and here is the second speaker. When we looked at the rear, we said that this place has a matte surface. The part where the cover screen is located has a black back and is distinctly separated from the rest of the body. There are again two cameras, but both differ from the cameras in last year’s model by protruding a little more outward. The LED flash is located outside the camera and cover screen group, just below the cameras.

The hinge structure of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is quite solid. The two flaps move easily and close tightly without the need to apply much force when closing. The same is true when opening. However, you may have some trouble when you take it out of your pocket and try to open it with one hand. It also seems likely that you will be confused as to which side is top and which side is bottom when trying to open it manually. However, we think that after a while you will learn how to quickly open and hold the phone correctly and then you will have no problems.
