Outback Yachts: a true “meeting of the minds” among some of the most acclaimed professionals in the yachting industry.
As dedicated boaters and seasoned marine industry professionals, we formed Outback Yachts with a mission to revolutionize recreational yachting.
The product of over a decade of dreaming, research, planning, and testing, the Outback 50 is the flagship yacht we’re proud to introduce to active boaters or families who want to take advantage of every minute of life on the water and fully enjoy life “out back.”

Our vessels are amazingly versatile, extremely efficient, and exceptionally seaworthy yachts that offer endless possibilities for weekend adventures and offshore cruising alike.

Here’s our story.

Our Story
For years, Andrew Cilla and his family cruised aboard their large power yacht through the Florida Keys and the Bahamas with their smaller fishing skiff in tow. Diving, fishing, gunkholing, or dinner ashore always involved the small boat.

Andrew soon realized that his family spent more time on the little boat and in the cockpit of the “mothership” than they ever did below. He concluded that to truly enjoy the cruising experience, he needed to stop towing, bring the smaller boat aboard, and enjoy a much more expansive cockpit.

So, he began dreaming of a perfect functional motor yacht
Andrew established his priorities based on his 50 years of boating experience: outdoor living, modest interior accommodations, and simple, essential design were the driving forces behind his vision.

He shared his vision and his initial drawings with some the smartest minds in yacht design, marine engineering, composite fabrication, and systems engineering. The designers, marine surveyors, boat captains, and boat builders he consulted willingly offered their critiques.

One of those experts, Jay Coyle, editor at large of Yachting Magazine, mentioned that Michael Peters, of Michael Peters Yacht Design, was developing a very similar boat for his own use. Having known Michael for over 30 years, Andrew considered him to be the most gifted yacht designer in the industry.

While Andrew was designing Hull #1 of his dream yacht, his friend Nick caught Andrew’s enthusiasm and committed to helping turn Andrew’s dream to a reality. They drove together to Michael Peters’ Sarasota design studio to discuss the possibilities of the Outback project with him.

They were surprised to see the similarities between their vision and Michael Peters’ concept.
Both concepts were based on efficiency, simplicity, and performance. Both were long, light in weight, and relatively narrow, with expansive deck space.

That common vision led Andrew and Nick to work with Michael Peters and his team to design what would become the Outback 50.

Three years later, after tweaking and refining the design and defining the engineering components, they began searching for the right build partner.

That search led them to John Olson of Offshore West, Inc., the U.S. distributor for Offshore Yachts, built in Taiwan by Kha Shing Enterprises.

This highly respected, award-winning shipyard has been building luxury yachts since 1978, including Hargrave Custom Yachts, Offshore Yachts and Belize Yachts.

John Olson has personally supervised the construction and delivery of over 100 new Offshore Yachts from the Kha Shing yard. His reputation for exceeding customer expectations is legendary in the industry.

Andrew and Nick persuaded John to serve as President of Outback Yachts and manage their construction at Kha Shing.

Under his leadership, with the support of our incredible staff, we’re confident that each Outback will meet the high standards of quality that we first envisioned.
Hull #1, Andrew’s boat, will launch in October 2019. Hulls #2 and #3 are currently under construction, scheduled for launch in January 2020 and April 2020.

Offshore West, John Olson’s company, will sell Outback Yachts on the U.S. West Coast. Luke Brown Yachts, Andrew’s company, will handle sales on the U.S. East Coast and Europe.

If you’d like to personally witness our achievement, we invite you to join us for a demonstration cruise. We’re convinced the Outback 50 will outperform any other motor yacht in its class.

You’ll be delighted with how much fun you’ll have with us “out back.”

Andrew P. Cilla, Founder
Born and raised on the New Jersey shore, Andrew Cilla grew up fishing and sailing. He used his savings to buy his first boat, a 10′ gaff rigged dinghy, when he was just eleven years old. Andrew financed his college education working summers and holidays at local boat yards and marinas.

After graduating in 1972 with a degree in Economics and Business Administration, Andrew began his career in the marine industry.

Andrew joined Luke Brown Yachts in 1977. A year later, when the owner of Luke Brown Yachts informed his brokers that he was closing the doors due to unprofitability, Andrew saw the potential. He acquired the firm and assumed the role of President. Through his hard work, dedication to his clients and brokers, and his commitment to integrity, Andrew has led Luke Brown Yachts to profitability every year since.

Andrew’s success is due, in part, to his wealth of experience in the boating and yachting industries. With over forty-five years as a yacht broker and forty years as the owner of a major yacht brokerage, he has more experience than most active brokers in the industry today.

The International Yacht Brokers Association presented Andrew with its Broker of the Year Award in 2014, recognizing him for his dedication, professionalism, and community service.

In 2018, at the annual Marine Industries Association dinner and awards ceremony, Andrew received with the Golden Anchor award in recognition for a lifetime of industry contribution and achievement.

Andrew also serves as the President of Freedom Waters Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides boating opportunities and related experiences for children with life threatening illnesses or disabilities, youth at risk, and military veterans.

Andrew founded Outback Yachts in 2014, working with John Olson and Michael Peters to realize his vision of creating a yacht that perfectly captures the spirit of “living on deck.” He is the contracted owner of Hull #1, scheduled to launch in October 2019.

His company, Luke Brown Yachts, is the East Coast and European distributor of Outback Yachts.

Andrew’s other accomplishments include serving as
• Former President, International Yacht Broker’s Association
• Former Director, Yacht Architects and Brokers Association
• Former Officer, Southern Yacht Broker’s Association
• Original Member, Super Yacht Network

John Olson, President
President and CEO of California-based Offshore West, Inc., John Olson was named President of Outback Yachts in 2017.

John began his career in 1992, when he joined Offshore Yachts at the invitation of company founders, Richard and Robert Hunt.

Starting from the ground up in their Costa Mesa office, John learned the business under the direct mentorship of the brothers, working in accounting, billing, project costing, parts procurement, commissioning, and assisting with client orders.

After less than two years in Costa Mesa, John was transferred to the Newport Beach sales office to pursue his passion for selling. Working every day with yachting novices and old salts alike delighted him.

As he gained experience, Offshore Yachts directed him to locate an East Coast dealer to service the growing national demand for Offshore Yachts.

The expansion of the Offshore brand to the East Coast presented a challenge as demand for the Brand grew. It required the Newport office to manage both the wholesale and retail aspects of the business.

In 1996 John accepted the opportunity to become the West Coast dealer for Offshore Yachts, marking the beginning of Offshore West, Inc.

In 2009, Offshore West became the exclusive dealer for Offshore Yachts in North America, and opened a new office in the Ft. Lauderdale area. With the strategic partnership of Luke Brown Yachts, the Offshore brand expanded their sales and marketing reach throughout the entire U.S. East Coast and Europe.

John enjoys adventures and travel with his wife Carrie, and his kids Mallory, Samantha and Connor. His love of family parallels the yachting lifestyle and drives the operating philosophy of Offshore West, and now, Outback Yachts.

A professional of honesty, integrity, and unflagging commitment to customer service, John would be delighted to provide further information or answer any questions you might have about Outback Yachts and the revolutionary new Outback 50.

Luke Brown Yachts has been an enthusiastic and generous supporter of Freedom Waters Foundation. Since its inception in 2006, Andrew Cilla has served as its president.

Outback Yachts is committed to continuing that support. We understand that shared experiences promote acceptance, tolerance, and understanding — and contribute to a greater sense of community.
