About the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation® (RPVI®) Certification

The Physician’s Vascular Interpretation (PVI) examination tests basic vascular knowledge and skills essential to physicians practicing vascular surgery and vascular medicine. By earning the RPVI® certification, physicians gain a critical edge in promoting public safety in vascular interpretation ultrasound.

The PVI examination assesses your skills and abilities in the anatomy and hemodynamics of cerebrovascular, venous, peripheral and abdominal blood vessels. View the PVI Content Outline in PDF-Printable format.

The PVI examination has 185 questions and takes four hours to complete. The examination features Picture Archive and Communication Simulation (PACSim) Items (questions)​. The new, patent-pending PACSim items simulate an interpretation workstation experience relevant to present-day medical practice.

Prerequisites

To earn an RPVI certification, you must meet educational and professional prerequisites and pass the Physicians’ Vascular Interpretation (PVI) examination. Each Applicant must meet a set of prerequisites, that includes levels of education and clinical experience. View the PVI Prerequisites

Take the Examination

The PVI examination is now offered year-round. Once your PVI application has been approved, a confirmation letter will be emailed to you so you may schedule an examination with Pearson VUE – APCA’s official testing vendor.

1.Gather your supporting documentation and sign-in to or create your MY APCA account.
2.Complete the RPVI online application form and submit payment via the Application Center.
3.Submit your supporting documentation: third-party attestation form, copy of current license and government issued ID.
4 .Check your application status and print your examination confirmation letter via MY APCA if approved.
